Lutrun was the first name, which appeared in written documentations describing the village of Luthern. Historians dispute about its origins even nowadays. The name could stem from “Hlutar” which is gothic. “Hlutar” means pure, clear, the river has especially clear water. Today a hiking trail named Lutrun runs all the way from the pilgrimage of Luthern Bad along the valley to Luther where it joins the famous route to Santiago de Compostela.
